Who we are:

Springhouse Shop and Studio Inc. has been in the custom woodworking business since 2000. Partners Adam & Nicole Karr are a husband and wife team who first  collaborated at Kutztown University- where Adam was a Geology major and Nicole studied fine art. We began making custom cabinets and furniture in Chester County, Pennsylvania, based out of a 1700’s era springhouse (the inspiration for our name) and predominantly served residences in the Main Line Philadelphia metro area.

In 2004, we relocated to Northeastern PA, with an equally historic One Room Schoolhouse now serving as our furniture gallery. If you’d like to come for a visit, we would love to meet with you and show you our furniture in person. We’re about a 2.5 hour drive from Philadelphia,  3 hours from New York City- and right next to the world class waterfall hiking at Ricketts Glen State Park. It’s worth a trip.

The Process:

The best way to get started working on a custom project together is for you (the client) to tell us what you’re looking for. Ideally, materials are sent to us via email Adam@SpringhouseWoodshop.com. Clients can provide inspiration images, sketches, snapshots, dimensions, descriptions, and we can use that to respond with an estimate for the job.  If you like what you see, we move on to taking a deposit (typically 10% or 50% depending on the schedule), creating a design, and measuring the space (if the project is built-in). We provide hand rendered drawings for our client’s approval before building when appropriate. Follow along as a few pieces go from designs to finished work.

Terms:

We require 50% payment to build custom work, with the balance due upon delivery or installation. The exception is for work that is being shipped via a 3rd party white-glove freight service, in which case the full balance is due upon completion and before the piece leaves our shop.  In the case of pieces delivered by a third party, finished photos are provided upon final billing and the piece will be insured during transit. Deposits on custom work are nonrefundable after work has been completed. Payment may be made by check, securely with a credit card, or via Paypal.

The Materials:

Our work is primarily composed of sustainably harvested, Pennsylvania grown hardwoods. Adam hand selects the boards for each job at local sawmills. We also use furniture grade sheet goods for drawer bottoms and cabinet carcasses. Finishes are as environmentally friendly as possible without sacrificing durablility.

Our work:

We offer truly custom pieces of genuine handcrafted American quality at a reasonable price. Inset door and drawers are standard. Drawers are dovetailed on slides that are soft-close self-closing and undermounted. Please contact us for more details or with questions about your custom woodworking needs.
