Black Rittenhouse Built-In Cabinets

This beautiful black built-in went in right before the end of the year 2018. Installed a the penthouse apartment for Philly area designer Michele Plachter, it conceals the air conditioner and sprinkler heads, provides display for a collection of books, photos and collected items. There’s an alcove for a television above ample doors and drawers for additional storage. A clever hiding spot for a large exercise mat can be found in the left most end panel, while the right side goes all the way to the wall, with over-the-door shelf space.

Crafted from Maple lumber and furniture-grade sheet goods and stained using Saman brand water-based product, these cabinets transformed the room and prove that not everything ought to be white!

Harvey’s Lake Bookcases | Pennsylvania Custom Cabinets

This gorgeous traditional home overlooks beautiful Harveys Lake Pennsylvania in Luzerne County.

The family room houses loads of cozy seating and a television along with a large stone fireplace. One of the homeowners is an avid reader and wanted some beautiful and super functional storage for games, photographs, and of course – lots of books!

The built-in custom bookcases reach from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, flanking a couple of stairs and a pair of pocket doors. They have a somewhat formal styling with panels wrapping the staircase and gracing the inset door fronts. The paint color is Sherwin Williams Extra White.

White built-in cabinetry

white wall to wall custom cabinets

In our latest finished work, two wall-to-wall cabinets create some classy storage with Carrara marble counters. Seven drawers and seven doors flank the carved mantel in this beautiful home in center city Philadelphia. The inset doors feature a raised panel with historic style and brass knobs. The paint is semi-gloss waterborne lacquer tinted to match Benjamin Moore Mascarpone, a creamy white. This project was a collaboration with Shophouse Design.

The left side is intended for bar usage and the right side to store children’s items. No matter what they chose to use it for, it adds style to this interior!

Kid’s Room Cabinetry Upgrade

Custom white desk and closet built-in, NYC
Custom white desk and closet built-in, NYC

Yesterday, these two custom bedroom built-ins were installed- and they made a welcome upgrade to a boy’s bedroom on the Upper West Side. The desk was built to match his sister’s, with a file drawer, pencil drawer, dimmable LED strip lighting, bookshelves and more.

The closet has a new central unit featuring an integral step up that doubles as a nook for organizing shoes. There are four sections for hanging clothes, twelve open adjustable cubbies, and four dovetailed drawers on soft close self closing undermount slides. All painted white with waterborne lacquer.

This morning we received a note from the client reading: “J. loves his desk and closet. Thanks!”

Custom Manhattan Murphy Bed
Counter pulls out for nightstand when used as bed

When space is at a premium, it helps to have built-ins that do double duty, like this white murphy bed with storage cabinets, a pull-out nightstand counter, drawers, and a fold-down desk with whiteboards. This piece was installed in Chelsea, New York City, and the modern white satin lacquer looked great against the blue wall. Arch pulls from Lee Valley Hardware. Only a custom cabinetmaker can produce a piece that fits a unique apartment wall like a glove.

Walnut Long Credenza

The latest installation was this long walnut credenza for a New York City residence. The base measures 14 1/2’ long and sports ten doors and a matching walnut counter. The doors are push to open and reveal an inner shelf.

The three floating shelves with integral LED lighting are over 90” long and 2 1/4” thick. The finish is a satin waterborne lacquer. The drawing for this job can be viewed here.

In the Shop: Demilune & Bedroom Built-In

In the shop, there are several pieces in a state of near completion. Above are images of the Walnut Veneered Demilune which will grace the entryway of a Manhattan home. The doors will be hung on invisible Soss hinges and the legs will be tapered. Below are a couple of updated shots of the Bedroom built-in. This piece is to be for a child’s bedroom that would also potentially double as a guest bedroom. The counter has enough space and clearance for a changing pad, and the cubbies above can hold any number of items up and out of the way. Neither piece will have visible hardware on the doors or drawers.
